Churches Together Christmas Day lunch for the elderly and those alone on December 25th at 1:00 pm over 80 guests are served Christmas Lunch which is sponsored by Churches Together In Maidenhead.
The CTIM Christmas Day lunch is an event in the true spirit of Christmas – an event of giving and good will; of showing the love of God to all people. It is held each year for those who otherwise would be on their own on this day of celebration.
Approximately 90 guests are served a hearty traditional Christmas Day lunch of soup, roast turkey dinner and Christmas pudding or fresh fruit. There are vegetarian options also available. The meal is provided in a location made festive by Christmas decorations: for the past several years this has been the excellent SportsAble facility on the Braywick Road.
Live entertainment is enjoyed as are traditional mince pies and cakes, tea/ coffee and festive drinks. When guests leave at the end of the event, they are each given a gift bag of food to take home with them. All in all it is a happy, wonderful event that is much enjoyed by guests and volunteers alike – a true blessing to all concerned. For those who can’t make their own way to the event, volunteer drivers drive them to and from it.
A small army of other volunteers provides the support needed – cooks; washers-up; waiters; bar staff; first aider; 'meeters and greeters' for guests arrival; cleaners. For 2012 the Mayor and Mayoress visited the event as did our local M.P. and it was covered by the Maidenhead Advertiser. Heartfelt thanks are due to all of these as well as to the proficient organising team under the excellent leadership of Tony Weeks from St. Joseph’s Church.
The event benefitted from generous contributions from many individuals and organisations, including:
Copas Traditional Turkeys for donating their award-winning turkeys via the Maidenhead Advertiser Cracker Appeal
People to Places buses
Maidenhead Advertiser Cracker Appeal
Charles Luxford and Margaret Fish (“Con Amoré”)
Thanks are due to all of these as well as to the following organisations who gave generous financial support:
The Maidenhead Advertiser Cracker Appeal
The Prince Philip Trust Fund
Kaffirs of Cookham Dean
The Lions Club of Maidenhead
The Rotary Club of Maidenhead
The Rotary Club of Maidenhead Thames
